Aditya Roy Kapur comes from a Bollywood centric family. His paternal grandfather was Raghupat Roy Kapur who was a Punjabi and went under the name of G Rakesh and produced four films in the 1940s and early 50s; he even directed two of them. His love for films compelled him to leave Lahore, Pakistan and his family’s established business for the brighter lights of Mumbai and films, but after directing four films he turned to business.
His maternal grandparents were Sam and Ruby Aaron. They were Jewish and were certified dance teachers. They have the distinction of introducing the sexy Samba dance style in India. They too, had Bollywood links for they are famous for teaching superstar actor of yesteryears, Bhagwan the very distinctive dance steps for his film Albela, that still can be seen copied by many young actors of today including the iconic Amitabh Bachchan.
Aditya Roy Kapur’s father is a charming Punjabi ex-army man who left the army when he met his wife who was Mumbai based. He tried his hand at business and did a bit of everything. Though Aditya seems to be closer to his mother, he has great memories growing up and recalls that though his posh Cuffe Parade neighbors were rich and seemed to have everything while his family was moderately well-off, he had a nice environment at home and felt that he had everything. Though in his pre-teens he tried to boast of things that he didn’t have! Aditya’s father now leads a quiet and retired life.

Aditya Roy Kapur’s mother was Salome Aaron before marriage. A Jewish beauty who was the winner of the Miss India (Eve’s Weekly) title in 1972, Salmone has tried her hand at not only modeling , but also has acted in one Hindi film in the 1960s. A dancer by profession, she has also choreographed a popular song in a hit movie. Many top Bollywood actors have learnt dancing from her at one time or another.
Her romance with Aditya’s father is the stuff of films. Aditya’s father was still in the army and posted in Kashmir when he met Salome at the local bar where she had come on a dancing assignment. He courted her and the two fell in love and then married. He left the army for his love and the two moved to Mumbai to begin their new innings.
Salome has been teaching dance for around thirty years; she was the dance director at the G. D. Somani Memorial School, Mumbai, too.
Aditya is very close to his mother and feels that he can talk to her about anything and everything; he feels that he can comfortably do so because in this particular relationship he doesn’t feel he has to be answerable to her.

Siddharth Roy Kapur – Aditya Roy Kapur Brother

Aditya Roy Kapur is the youngest of the three Roy Kapur brothers. His eldest brother is Siddharth Roy Kapur, the powerful CEO of UTV Motion Pictures. Siddharth is nearly eleven years older than Aditya. Aditya’s relationship with his brother is a combination of healthy respect and brotherly love; he calls him his friend as well as elder brother. Aditya finds Siddharth to be a family oriented man who is very organized in all matters of life and finds his advice regarding everything useful, whether it is about the people he is working with or events he is associated with.

Kunaal Roy Kapur – Aditya Roy Kapur Brother

Aditya Roy Kapur second brother, Kunaal Roy Kapur is four years elder to him. Kunaal is also an actor and has acted in a couple of movies. When Aditya was a kid, he generally tagged behind Kunaal and joined him and his group of friends at play; at one time Aditya even had a crush on one of Kunaal’s girlfriends!
According to Aditya, Kunaal is a very multi-faceted person; he is not only a talented stand-up comedian, but also a photographer and actor. Aditya looks to Kunaal too, for his advice and input and when the whole family gets together they generally get down to talking movies and have a real fun time.

Aditya Roy Kapur eldest sister-in-law is actress Vidya Balan. Vidya is married to Aditya’s eldest brother, Siddharth Roy Kapur. Siddharth married Vidya last year. Aditya has deep respect for Vidya as a person and actress. He finds that Vidya never gives out star like vibes, but is just a very warm, grounded and regular person. In recent days, he hasn’t managed to meet her very often because of each other’s busy schedules, though he remembers feeling special when she asked him for an autograph after watching his hit film Aashiqui 2. He calls her a friend who is interested in his career and understands his journey. He admires and loves the way she carries herself.

Aditya Roy Kapur’s second eldest sister-in-law is Shayonti Roy Kapur. Shayonti is married to Aditya’s second eldest brother, Kunaal Roy Kapur. The two have been married for almost seven years and have two children.
Shayonti is an interior designer and is currently studying to be a ceramic artist in Pondicherry.
