Boney Kapoor – Father
Arjun Kapoor is the son of famous film producer Boney Kapoor, He has produced films like Mr. India, No Entry, It’s My Life, Milenge Milenge, Wanted, Bewafaa, Kyun…! Ho Gaya Na, Run, Khushi, Shakti, Company, Pukar, Sirf Tum, Judaai, Loafer, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe, Prem, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Drohi, Antam Raat, Woh 7 Din and Hum Paanch.
Arjun, nephew to actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor, seems to be happy to team up with his father for the first time for the film Tevar, a remake of the Telugu action film Okkadu, also starring Sonakshi Sinha. He’s very excited to be working in his father’s film. ‘It is a lifelong dream of mine. He is not making a film for me but a film that he loves making, his kind of cinema,’ said he. His dad and family have all the confidence in him and he too wants to give back that confidence through his work.
Tevar is an action film, but he plays a fun loving boy. He portrays the role of a college student and a kabaddi player in the upcoming film. He will be seen with a heavier stubble, light coloured hair and also sporting an earring in the film.
Arjun is getting to spend time with his dad now because now he’s an actor. ‘It also becomes professional as we have our own opinions. He is my father and I love him’, he said. His father has learned a lot about him while working with him. The father – son duo seem to have fun working together. His dad didn’t know that he carries food all the time and he discovered that for the first time. Senior Mr. Kapoor has never been on the sets to see his son working but his son has seen his dad work for the last 20 years!Arjun, being an avid film lover from his early childhood days, would often accompany his father to the studios as a young child and watch his father working on his production, even as he engaged in intense creative discussions with his team. He used to get amazed by his dad’s organizational ability and the way he planned and executed project after project with remarkable ease and expertise! While Mr India left a lasting impression on him, he enjoyed watching Pukaar. His interest in the process of filmmaking doubled in due course and one fine day Arjun, decided to quit his college after having passed his H.S.C. exams and get full-fledged into filmmaking, like his father. “I knew I had to start working 24 hours on it if I had to get the actual feel of it. From Roop Ki Raani Choron Ka Raaja to Prem, I did the rounds of studios with dad and got totally involved in his productions,” he says. His real experience and training however came when he assisted his father in the Shah Rukh – Nana Patekar starrer, Shakti, in which he also made the trailers of the film, besides being actively involved in it. The film was very special to him because that’s when he really got into the act. It gave him a new understanding of film!
He gave a shot and that’s the first time when his dad came and gave him a compliment. ‘He said, good shot and that meant a world to me’, said Arjun. It seems to be something that underlines or defines his existence. The equation will never change, it will only get better and better, according to him.
Arjun, who has moved out of the family home, says staying apart from his dad doesn’t affect his relationship. In their relationship there has never been a drift. His dad was not living with him. But, the equation, love, and emotion never changed at any point. He respects his dad’s choice. ‘I am happy as well as he is happy,” said Arjun. Looks like Arjun’s bond with his daddy is getting stronger day by day, working together. But it was never the same. It took time. But now theyseem to have bridged the gap over the course of so many years.
Mona Shourie Kapoor – Mother
Arjun’s mom, Mona Shourie Kapoor was the CEO of Future Studios in Mumbai. She had been a partner for Business Aids & Machine Exports. As a director of FCL, she was the production coordinator for films like Sheesha & Farishtey. She also produced television shows like Hera Pheri aired on the channel Star Plus, Yug telecast on Doordarshan, Wilayatee Babu again on Doordarshan TV and Kaise Kahoon aired on Zee TV.
Arjun’s dad shifted out when he was 10 and his sister was five. His mom continued to live in the same joint family. For the last ten years, Mona has brought them up as a single parent.
Arjun’s mom is said to have died due to multiple organ failure after battling with cancer. She breathed her last few days after she was diagnosed with third stage of cancer. Arjunhad gone through the biggest loss of his life with the sudden demise of his mother.
Though it was a difficult period for Arjun, he coped up with support from his near and dear ones.
Few People were aware of the turmoil and agony that Arjun Kapoor had been going through after his mother’s death.
It looks like Arjun had not spoken about it to anyone. Not even to the people closest to him. The tragedy shattered Arjun as he and his sister Anshul were very close to their mother.
It was Mona’s dream to see her daughter graduate from her college in New York and her son to make his screen debut. But a cruel date with fate snatched her away months before she could realize both her children’s dreams. Arjun’s debut movie Ishaqzaade, which released few days after his mom’s death, turned out to be a grand earner at the box-office!
Arjun and Anshul were bereft, motherless and rudderless at a critical juncture in their lives. Their father requested classmate and childhood friend Shabana Azmi to step in to help him navigate his children through this terrible crisis at a time when they were stepping into the most decisive phase of their young lives. She supposedly took charge of Boney’s two children after the demise of Mona as she is said to have happily agreed to provide every kind of support to them.
Anshula Kapoor – Sister
Arjun’s younger sister, Anshula graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York.
The brother – sister duo share a great bonding. Arjun, lamentably couldn’t be there for his sister’s graduation ceremony since he had to be in India for the promotion of his debut movie, Ishaqzaade.
‘I’m so busy with work that I barely get to meet my sister Anshula’, said Arjun. It was heard that she had topped her class. Arjun’s performance is also said to have received rave reviews.
Anshula is in her 20s has garnered a lot of news around her at this age, due to her star kid / sibling status. She had been spotted quite a few times with her brother, partying hard and was recently even out in full form to celebrate her brother’s 28th birthday bash.Sheis said tohave shown no interest in Bollywood as of now.
Sridevi – Step Mother
Boney Kapoor fell in love with Bollywood beauty Sridevi. Boney had walked out of his first marriage to marry Sridevi. They tied the knot secretly while Mona continued to live with her in – laws and kids.
Arjun lived separately, away from his step – mom Sridevi. His mother taught him to be respectful towards everybody. She allowed him to develop his own equation with each and every person including Sridevi. There was no set protocol which he had to follow.
He went on holidays with his father even after they separated, his father’s family was along. Boney has two daughters with Sridevi as well, named Jhanvi and Khushi. ‘The dynamics are complicated. It will never be normal. We will never be ‘We are family’. It does not end as films do. You don’t live happily ever after’, said he. He is respectful towards Sridevi because she is his father’s wife and will always remain. His father is happy with her. And for him, that is important. He wants his dad to be happy. And if his dad is happy it seems to be fine for him as well. He will be able to deal with it.
Arjun and sis Anshula’s relationship with their step mom has always been a bit strained but they seem to have put the past behind. At a recent fashion event Sridevi and her elder daughter Jhanvi were seen chatting up with Anshula Kapoor. Arjun, in the past, has never openly spoken about Sridevi or about their relationship. But now, perhaps the family is burying the past and moving ahead.
Surinder Kapoor – Grandfather
Arjun’s grandpa, Surinder Kapoor started his film career as a secretary to Geeta Bali. The Dada Saheb Phalke Academy honored the veteran producer with the L.V. Prasad Phalke Award in 2009. He produced many films like Pukar, No Entry, Humaara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Judaai, Hum Paanch etc. He also served as President of the Film & Television Producers Guild of India from 1995 to 2001.
Surinder Kapoor passed away recently. He was 84 at the time of his death. He had suffered a cardiac arrest. He is said to have had gone for anevening walk. He came back, drank a glass of water and while he was untying the laces of his shoes, he suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.
Sonam Kapoor – Cousin Sister
Sonam Kapoor happens to be Arjun Kapoor’s cousin from his father’s side.
Sonam seem to be a possessive, mother-like sibling. She checks on him like a mother. She calls him every week, asking if she should send something to eat, or if he needs anything else. Professionally, they seem to have a very non-interfering relationship.
She is known for her own choices and in the same way, she wants her bro to create his own personality. Personally, he has to take Sonam’s aashirwad before he settles with any girlfriend or even befriend a girl.
During school, she would use him as an older brother as per her convenience. He will be wary of her opinion if someone steps into his life.He would need Sonam’s acceptance and validation.
Looks like the Kapoor siblings share a close bond and they must be sharing secrets with each other, like all siblings do!
