Asha Bhosle is one those great stars that come once in a life time, who have the god-given talent to express themselves and all the emotions that are present, through their songs and voice. For around four decades we have been touched and stimulated through her mind boggling range of songs.

In her repertoire of songs, cabaret songs perhaps, remain a large chunk and are immediately identified as being her songs.

Asha sang with great gusto with the incomparable Mohammad Rafi for the suspense film Teesri Manzil. “Oh Hasina” was picturised on cabaret queen Helen and Bollywood’s Yahoo star, Shammi Kapoor. This great dance track has energy and great music to keep it still popular for a new generation.

Asha sang “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja”, a R.D.Burman composed song with equal amounts of sensuality and emotion. This song is from the hit film Caravan that had Jeetendra and Asha Parekh as its lead pair. This cabaret number was picturised on Helen.

Asha and R.D. Burman sang “Duniya Mein Logon Ko” for the film Apna Desh, which was picturised on Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna wearing blonde wigs and presumably in disguise, as they danced in front of the unsuspecting villain. R.D. Burman experimented with his voice to give something different to the song.

Asha Bhosle sang “Jawani Janeman ” for the multi-starrer film Namak Halal and the song was picturised on a lovely Praveen Babi who swayed sensuously with the song in a shimmering dress, in front of Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan.

Asha used her voice with amazing effect in the song “Mera Naam Hai Shabnam ” for the scene in the film Kati Patang where Bindu, the cabaret dancer taunts Asha Parekh, as Rajesh Khanna looks on,  about her secret and real identity, which happened to be the crux of the movie,

Asha sang the suspenseful song “Aaj Ki Raat Koi Aane Ko Hai ” for Helen as she danced in front of the lead pair Jaya Bhaduri and Sanjeev Kumar, in  a well choreographed number,  in the film Anamika.
