Bipasha is a Bengali who was born on the 7th of January, 1979 in the capital city of Delhi. The Basu family shifted to Kolkata soon after. She is the middle child in a close knit family of three sisters; all of whose names begin with the letter ‘B’- Bidisha, Bipasha and Bijoyeta.
This tall actress, who is 5ft 8½in in height has followed the path of her name which means ‘Dark Deep Desire’ and is also the name of a river. Considered ‘ugly’ when she was a kid due to her dark complexion, she has travelled to find her inner woman and at the age of 17, she became the Ford Supermodel of the World.
Bipasha’s dreams of becoming a doctor were shattered when she fainted whilst dissecting a rat in the 12th grade. She shifted to the Commerce stream for her graduation and had planned a career as a Chartered Accountant, but fate decided otherwise.
She soon became a popular model, often seen on the catwalk and commercials. Then her debut happened in 2001 with a negative role in the thriller film Ajnabee. She stood tall in this multistarrer film, which had experienced and popular stars acting beside her.

Bipasha has become associated with strong sexual women characters, who are not afraid to take decisions for themselves. She has starred in films like No Entry, Phir Herapheri, Corporate, Dhoom 2 , Raaz and Raaz 3.
Bipasha has never been shy about her body and has shown her amazingly fit and toned body in films like Dhoom 2 and Jism. Though possessing a great figure, whenever Bipasha has had to wear the bikini on screen, she has put herself through a strict diet and exercise regime, so that her body looks great on screen and no flab or crease is highlighted by the camera.
The Bengali Bombshell has twice been named the “Sexiest Woman in Asia” by UK magazine ‘Eastern Eye’ in 2005 and 2007.
Bipasha’s obsession with workouts began when she was diagnosed with the painful osteoarthritis problem and she has even brought out a series of three fitness DVDs including ‘Unleash‘, Fit & Fabulous You and ‘Break free’ ; under her brand name ‘BB Love Yourself’.
She is one of the few actresses in Bollywood who have a song with their own name and in the 2012 film Jodi Breakers, she performed and danced to a song called “Bipasha”, which was sung by Shradha Pandit.
