Bollywood ABCs



Laawaris is a Bollywood film directed by Prakash Mehra in 1981. The film became known for its song “Mere Angene Mein, Tumhara Kya Kaam Hai” rendered twice: The first time by the young Alka Yagnik who earned her first Filmfare Nomination as best female playback singer, and the second time by Amitabh Bachchan, and his version became the top song of the 1980s decade. The film starred Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Amjad Khan and Raakhee Gulzar.


The story revolves around an orphan (Lawaaris) who stumbles over reality in his search for his parents. The film became a “blockbuster” at the box office. It earned additional nominations for both the Best actor ( Amitabh Bachchan) and Best Supporting actor ( Suresh Oberoi).

The film was remade in Telugu called Naa Desam (1982) starring N.T Rama Rao and Jayasudha.
