Aamir is an Indian actor, director and producer who has established himself as one of the leading actors of Hindi cinema. Born on March 14, 1965, he started his career as a child actor in ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ a film directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain film. He began his professional career eleven years later with Holi, recieving his first commercial success with Qayamat Qayamat See Thanks. He won the National Film Award (Special Jury Award) for his roles in films Qayamat Qayamat Thanks See (1988) and Raakh (1989). After eight previous nominations during the 1980s and 1990s, he received his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in the big Grosser Raja Hindustani and later earned his second best actor award for his performance in the Oscar-nominated Lagaan. Lagaan was the first film produced by him.

After a four-year break from acting, he played the title role in the historical Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), and later won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his role in Rang De Basanti (2006). In the following year, he made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, for which he received a Filmfare Award for best director. This was followed by Ghajini (2008), which was the highest grossing film that year, and 3 Idiots (2009), which was the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time. The government has honored him with Padma Shri in 2003 and Padma Bhushan in 2010 for his contribution to art. On 30th november 2011, he was also appointed as the national brand ambassador for UNICEF to promote children’s nutrition.
