Aishwarya is an Indian film actress who started her career as a model before winning the Miss World pageant in 1994 and eventually foraying into Bollywood. She has acted in over 40 films in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali.
She has been cited by the media as one of the most beautiful women in the world. She debut in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar (1997), and had her first commercial success in the Tamil movie Jeans (1998). Aishwarya got attention through the Bollywood movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She’s performance won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award. In 2002 she appeared in Bhansali has Devdas, for which She won her second Filmfare Best Actress Award.

After a setback in her career during 2003-2005, she acted in Dhoom 2 (2006), her biggest commercial success in India. She later appeared in many films like Guru (2007), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), and Enthiran (2010), which was commercially and critically successful. She has established itself as one of the leading contemporary actresses in Bollywood.

She is also the brand ambassador for various charities and campaigns. In 2009 she was honored with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award given by the Indian Government.
