Farhan Akhtar
Farhan Akhtar is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, playback singer, songwriter, movie producer, working in Bollywood. He is the son of writers Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani and younger brother of director Zoya Akhtar.
Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut in 2001 with Dil Chahta Hai, which has received praise from critics for producing modern Indian youth as cosmopolitan and urban and won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. He made his acting debut seven years later with Rock On! (2008), who also won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
In 2007 Farhan Akhtar led the Positive, a 12-minute short film on HIV stigma and the need for family support for the patient. The film was shot in Mumbai and was part of “AIDS JaaGo”.
In 2008, Farhan Akhtar made his debut in Rock On!. It was critically acclaimed and a box office hit. It did very well especially in the metros. Farhan Akhtar also appeared as the male lead in his sister Zoya’s directorial debut, Luck by chance. His film Karthik Calling Karthik was released in 2010 and received decent critical reviews. It is also performed decently well at the box office. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was released on 15 July 2011 in which Farhan Akhtar co-starred with Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol. It did extremely well at the box office, and Farhan Akhtar was praised by critics.
Farhan Akhtar made his singing debut in Rock On!, singing in most of the film’s songs. He has appeared as a judge on a few shows on television, including the first season of dance reality show Nach Baliye (2005), and the beauty pageant, Femina Miss India (2002). Farhan Akhtar also hosted a TV show on NDTV Imagine called Oye! It’s Friday!.
