She did her studies from the Nileswaram GLP School. Kavya’s interest in the performing arts was apparent right from when she was a little girl and she learnt dancing during her school days and was proficient enough to take part in dance competitions.
Kavya got involved with the Malayalam film industry when she was just a child and she made her debut into the industry as a child artist for the film Pookkalam Varavayi in 1991. She continued to do more films as a child actor in the films like Pavam IA Ivachan in 1994.

Her first film as heroine happened when she was a teenager, in the ninth grade .Her film Chandranudikkunna Dikhil opposite actor Dileep was a 1999 film that was directed by Lal Jose. This film was a huge hit at the box office and offers started soon pouring in for her.

Kavya struck up such a successful on screen pairing with actor Dileep and the pair was a part of so many commercially successful films that the two were often referred to as the ‘Golden Pair’. Besides her debut film Kavya acted opposite Dileep in films like the super hit film Meesa Madhavan in 2002, Paapy Appache in 2010, Randilum, Sadanandante Samayam, Dhosth and Madhuranombarakattu.

She has seen pain in her personal life due to the unfortunate failure of her marriage. She had married Nischal Chandra in 2009, at the Kollur Mookambika Temple. Thereafter, she left for Kuwait with her new husband to reside there with him, but she soon returned alone, in June, to never go back again. Her divorce came through in May, 2011.
