Mallika Sherawat was born Reema Lamba, in Haryana to a Jat family. Mallika is an Indian actress, known mostly for her bold avatar in films and is widely famous for her item numbers in various movies. She has frequently been termed as a sex symbol  by the media for her daring nature. Mallika Sherawat is one of the few Bollywood actresses who have tried hard to crossover to Hollywood from Bollywood with films like Hiss, Politics Of Love. Mallika also made an appearance in the Chinese film The Myth opposite Jackie Chan in a very miniscule role.

Mallika went to the Delhi Public School and obtained a degree in philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University. It has been reported that she was married for a short while to a Jet Airways pilot Captain Karan Singh Gill.

Mallika was born on October 24th, but her birth year is unknown to the media till date. Mallika was born in the family of Seth Chhaju Ram, a leading Jat philanthropist. Though born Reema Lamba, Mallika changed her surname name from Lamba to her mother’s maiden name Sherawat. Mallika is her screen name.

Before her venture into films, Mallika Sherawat appeared in a lot of commercials like BPL opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Santro opposite Shahrukh Khan. And then she went on to act in music videos Maar Daala and Lak Toonoo.

Mallika Sherawat forayed into the Bollywood Film Industry in a small debut role in the film Jeena Sirf Merre liye. She was first noticed for her performance in the film Khwahish. It was the movie Murder which gave her recognition as an actor and got her a nomination for the Best Actress Award at the Zee Cine Awards. Murder was considered one of the biggest hits that year.

Mallika Sherawat has always been in the news, be it for her bold statements, her dressing sense or for her reactions to her statements.

Mallika Sherawat bagged her first Hollywood film The Myth opposite Jackie Chan amidst great publicity, but actually in a miniscule role. She promoted her film alongside Jackie Chan at the Cannes Film festival and managed to grab a lot of attention with Time Magazine’s Richard Corliss calling her “the next big thing”.

Mallika then landed herself in Bollywood with plum projects like Pyaar Ke Side Effects which did well at the Box office and managed to appear in a very popular number ‘Maiyya Maiyya’ in the super-hit film Guru. She also played a guest role in the film Aap Ka Suroor and a comic role in the movie Welcome, which turned out to be a huge hit.

Mallika’s other movies like Ugly Aur Pagli and Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam were unsuccessful at the box office. Her next movie Double Dhamaal received moderate success at the Box Office. She also appeared in item numbers in films such as Thank You (Razia Gundon Mein Phas Gayi), Bin Bulaye Baraati (Shalu Ke Thumkey} and in Osthe (Kalasala), a Tamil film.

Recently she appeared in an item number in the film Tezz called ‘Laila’. Mallika Sherawat  appeared in  full fledged roles namely in Kismat Love Paisa Dilli,  and Lucky Unlucky in 2012.

Her brief stint in Hollywood has garnered her attention. She starred in the first Hollywood flick Hisss, a film based on the legend of Naga, in an independent co-production between the United States and India. Mallika starred in another Hollywood film, Politics of Love, aka Love, Barack, directed by William Dear where she essayed the role of a local Obama supporter.

Mallika Sherawat won the 2008 Renaissance Artist Award at the 16th Annual Diversity Awards held in California. On 14 August 2009, Mallika Sherawat received a career recognition Honorary Citizenship of Los Angeles for her career achievements and charitable efforts.
