Mallika Sherawat was born Reema Lamba in Rohtak, Haryana. She adopted the screen name of “Mallika”, meaning “empress” to avoid confusion with other actresses named Reema. She used her mother’s maiden name “Sherawat” because of the support that her mother gave her. Although the relations with her family was strained, the family has now accepted Mallika Sherawat’s career choice.

Mallika Sherawat has starred in another Hollywood film, Politics of Love, where she played Aretha Gupta, a devoted local Obama volunteer coordinator. The film is a romantic comedy set during Barack Obama’s campaign for the U.S. presidency.

Mallika Sherawat also known as the controversy queen holds a record of kissing actors on screen. She is one actor who has had no qualms kissing her co-actors on screen. Mallika Sherawat has kissed actor Emraan Hashmi the maximum number of times in the film Murder. Another actor with whom Mallika became most popular with was Himanshu Malik. She shared the longest smooch ever on-screen with Himanshu and created a record of sorts with the smooch.

Mallika Sherawat won the 2008 Renaissance Artist Award at the 16th Annual Diversity Awards held in California. On 14 august 2009, Mallika Sherawat received a career recognition Honorary Citizen of Los Angeles for her career achievements and charitable efforts.
