Sunny Deol was named Ajay Singh Deol when he was born on the 19th of October, 1956 in New Delhi. His father is one of the great names of the Indian film industry, Dharmendra, while his mother, Prakash Kaur is a simple home maker. Sunny was born into a Sikh family. He is Dharmendra’s eldest son, while Bobby Deol who is an actor too, is the younger son. He has two sisters- Vijayta and Ajeeta. Abhay Deol who is also part of the film fraternity, is his cousin. Before joining the Bollywood industry, Sunny Deol went to England to pursue studies in theater and acting and joined the Old Web Theater in Birmingham.

Sunny Deol made a spectacular debut in Bollywood with his 1983 hit Betaab with another new co-star, Amrita Singh. This romantic- action drama directed by Rahul Rawail won him thousands of fans and paved his way in the industry. It earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Debut. Yash Choprs’s Darr was a movie where the storyline had a lot of scope for Sunny to show off his romantic as well as action skills, but he felt short changed when the movie was released. Sunny felt that ShahRukh Khan, the villain of the movie, had got a meatier role than him and had managed to get the audience’s attention and sympathy.
