Known for his great comic timing, which can bring a smile on the faces of the audience, Kapil Sharma is an actor, a television presenter and above all a comedian. Out of all the present stand-up comedians, he happens to be one of the most sought after. Currently he is a big name in almost all households for his hosting act in the show Comedy Nights with Kapil, the concept of which is partially based on The Kumars at Number 42, a British show. A lesser known fact is that Kapil Sharma has been roped in by producer duo Abbas-Mustan, and is all set to work in a comic film.
This great comedian kick started his career in the domain of comedy through his participation in the reality show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad. He also hosted the Colors comedy show Chhote Miyan in the year 2008 along with Juhi Parmar, as well as Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season IV together with Chandan Prabhakar. The year 2009 saw this talented comedian join Hans Baliye, a reality show on Star One, where his participation was the result of a wild card entry. Kapil also went international in 2012 when he became one of the hosts of the first Punjabi international film awards. Interestingly, the childhood dream of this marvelous stand-up comedian was to build his career as a singer.
Two notable shows in Kapil’s comic career are Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur, both of which were won by him. Shweta Tiwari was his partner in the latter. Kapil: A family man
Born on 2nd April, 1983, in Amritsar Punjab to father K. Sharma and mother Janak Rani, Kapil Sharma hails from a lower middle class, non-celebrity Brahmin family, which had no background in entertainment. His father worked in the police department where he was the head constable, whereas his mother is a housewife. His elder brother is Ashok Sharma and he also has a younger sister named Pooja.
Ashok works in the Punjab police as a head constable, with his posting in Amritsar. His wife is Muskan Sharma and they have a daughter of four years named Kayna. Kapil is greatly admired by his niece, who imitates his public performances with great enthusiasm, especially the well-known baba ji ka thullu.
Although a large portion of his audience is of the opinion that he is an overnight star, the truth is that Kapil has gone through a lot of struggles to reach the place where he stands now. His father was diagnosed with the last stage of cancer in the year 1997, when Kapil was still a student, and succumbed to cancer in the year 2004. After the death of his father, Kapil took up the responsibility of his entire family, including his younger sister Pooja’s marriage in 2008.Kapil did not have enough money to join any professional acting course. However, seeing his talent and great interest, a number of institutions came forward to sponsor his course fee for acting.
In the words of Kapil himself, he has participated in serious theatre as well as comic plays, many times without any remuneration. Those days have contributed a lot in making him a better person. During his journey to success, he has transformed his hair style and look in order make his appearance more apt for his career. The life of this great comedian is a source of inspiration for many.
So far as his personal life is concerned, Kapil is a very is a carefree individual who likes to enjoy life despite all hurdles . In the show, Kapil’s on-screen wife is Sumona Chakravorti. If sources are to be believed, in real life Kapil is presently dating Bhavneet Chatrath, aka Ginni, his Jalandhar based co-star of Hans Baliye. Though the couple has known each other from their days in college, love happened on the sets of Hans Baliye. Bhavneet has also posted pictures on her page showing Kapil dining with her family, and the snap has been titled as ‘My Family’. However, there is no confirmation yet about marriage. Recently, a lot of gossip is doing the rounds that Kapil has entered into a committed relationship with the Comedy Nights creative director, Preeti Simeos.
Many do not know that Kapil Sharma is also a producer and runs his own production house that bears the name K9 Productions. The show Comedy Nights with Kapil has in fact been launched under this production house.
Kapil was an easy winner of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 3, in which he was the foremost contestant to come to the stage. He became a name in India, especially amongst the people of Punjab, with his brilliant portrayal of Samsher Singh, a character that brings to light the different mannerisms of those working in the Punjab police department.
Another magic created by Kapil is Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6 wherein, he together with Manish Paul, held the audience spell bound, with the wonderful comic timing. This dance show became all the more popular because it was the first show ever of its kind to bring together two brilliantly performing male hosts.
This talent stand-up comedian has bagged a place in the Forbes India Celebrity list, wherein he was ranked 93 for the first time and in 2014, considerably moved up to secure the 33rd position. In the Entertainment category, the CNN-IBN also declared him as the Indian of the Year 2013.
